Life is about having experiences, big and small, memorable and mundane, transformative and trivial. But what is an experience, and how do we understand the type of experience that people are having?

This question has been central to who we are for as long as people have had awareness of having a self to reflect upon. Philosophers and academics have pondered the nature of experience(s). Increasingly, businesses of all kinds are paying attention to the types of experiences they are creating, and how to capture them to design better ones. In fact, we can say that we are living in the “Age of Experiences”, where customer experience, employee experience, patient experience, student experience, digital experience, brand experience, and many more areas to explore.

Experience research and design is about trying to make experiences that better serve those who are impacted by them. Since 1917, Bentley University has been an educational institution that believes in “business as a force for good.” The Experience Research Society (EXPRESSO) was founded “to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration around experiences to create scientific and societal impact.”

Together, they are bringing the 2024 7X Summit to celebrate and share the most cutting edge thinking and research on experiences.

We welcome you to participant in the 2024 7X Summit to share your passion about experience research and design. Whether you are an academic researcher, a professional practitioner, an aspiring student, or a creative designer, the 7X Summit will have something for you! Come enjoy beautiful New England in autumn, learn from colleagues, share your insights, and be part of the experience research and design field!

Submission Guidelines

The 2024 7 Experiences Summit provides two types of opportunities to participate. You are invited to submit a research abstract or a workshop proposal. Research submissions can be for an oral presentation during a regular session, or a poster session during a social reception. You can indicate which format you would prefer. Oral presentations will be part of sessions in which 3 to 4 other presentations will occur. Poster sessions will involve the presenter creating a poster that details their work and outcomes. All persons who are presenting are expected to register for the conference.

Workshops will be comprised of an hour-long session in which the presenter(s) will detail some approach, tool, technique, and/or innovation in experience research and design. The purpose of the workshop is for attendees to come away with a new skill that they can use in their own work.

All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.

Venue

The conference will be held at Bentley University, located just miles from downtown Boston, Massachusetts USA. Come and experience scenic New England in a autumn setting as experience researchers and designers from around the world meet.
