1st Annual Online Graduate Student International Colloquium on Southeast Asian Historical Scholarship

Call for Abstract

Themed “Trends, Issues, and Problems in Southeast Asian Historical Scholarship”, the event is organized by graduate students for graduate students.

Providing a new platform for MA, MPhil, PhD, and recently graduated researchers to share their innovative research ideas and findings, the event also provides opportunity to engage in critical discussions regarding the current state of Southeast Asian historical studies. The Colloquium Convenors welcome presentation proposals that address one or more of the following themes:

• Innovative methodological approaches to Southeast Asian History
• Reinterpreting historiography via new research findings
• Interdisciplinary approaches to the study of Southeast Asian History
• The making of the study of History accessible to the public
• The value of History to other scholarly fields, e.g. education, heritage, cultural studies, urban studies, etc.

The International Colloquium will be conducted online, and is to be structured into a number of panel sessions.

Panels shall comprise of short presentations reflecting each young scholar’s research findings/their contribution to their respective field. Presentations will be followed by discussions facilitated by a panel chair. All panels will therefore be informative and interactive with audience Q and As invited.

To participate in the event, you are warmly welcomed to submit a 100 to 150-word abstract in English at https://easychair.org/conferences?conf=agsic1seasia before the deadline of March 23, 2025. All proposed abstracts will be subject to blind peer review.
