The ASIAN CHI Symposium is an annual event organized by researchers and practitioners in the Asia Pacific since the authors first co-initiated South East Asia Computer-Human Interaction (SEACHI) during CHI 2015.
The symposium aims to bring together both early-career and senior HCI academia and UX practitioners from industries in the Asia Pacific and bring about cross-exchange of information and transfer of knowledge in a multidisciplinary environment and multi-socio-economic aspects of HCI research, foster social ties and collaboration in the field of HCI.
As the Asian CHI community grows to be more diverse than when we started in 2015, there is a need to address the issues of equity, justice, access, and transparency more strategically, especially with a historical link to colonialism in Asia. Beyond showcasing the latest Asian-inspired HCI work and those focusing on incorporating Asian sociocultural factors in their design, implementation, evaluation, and improvement, the Asian CHI Symposium 2022 is a sandbox for decolonizing yet academically rigorous discourse platform for both HCI academic and UX practitioners to present their latest research findings and solutions that reflect the expansion of HCI theory and applications towards culturally inclusive design for diverse audiences in Asia.
This year, we also organize the SEACHI 2022 Workshop as a collocated event during the Asian CHI 2022 Symposium. The workshop will specifically address a working agenda to accelerate HCI and UX research, community, and collaboration in Southeast Asia.
Call for Papers
Asian CHI 2022 Symposium is inviting you to showcase the latest HCI work from anywhere in Asia, the Asian diaspora, and those focusing on incorporating Asian sociocultural factors in their design and implementation. This symposium aims to foster social ties among academics (researchers and students) and practitioners and continuously grow a research community in Asia.
Submission Guidelines
We welcome any submissions related to HCI and UX research and projects in the Asian region and community. All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. They are two categories of the submission as follows:
-
Original Works (Paper, Poster, or Demo)
-
Showcase
Original Works
This category showcases novel works that include the following:
- Completed systems and/or studies,
- Preliminary results of early iterations of design, engineering, or empirical studies, or

Showcase
The Workshop Showcase represents relevant works that have been accepted for presentation in one of the CHI 2022 tracks, or any HCI and/or UX-related works published in the last year (max. May 2021).
This type of work could be submitted if they are in line with the goal of the SEACHI Workshop and have the potential to broaden the dissemination of high-quality published research and to inspire applications, replications, continuation, spin-offs, and collaboration.
All submissions will follow the ACM Primary Article Template that can be accessed from here. All accepted Showcase submissions will be presented during the Symposium and Workshop.
