About the book
Smart-grid is the new generation of the power grid that has been advocated to increase the reliability of the grid and to reduce carbon footprint by integrating distributed resources. Microgrid technology allows for the integration of renewable energies. Microgrids are either AC or DC. The increasing number of DC loads in addition to the need to reduce the loss in converting the DC power to AC, and the existence of DC storage units have proponent the design and adoption of a DC microgrid. The electrification of the transportation sector has further endorsed the DC microgrid. A DC microgrid system is composed of renewable resources, DC storage elements, DC loads, and intelligent electrical devices. It has gained enormous interest due to its efficiency, scalability, and cost. DC microgrids have a tremendous application to power, for instance, data centers, residential areas, base stations, and electric vehicle charging stations.
This book treats the design, control, and management of the DC microgrid in both islanded and grid-connected modes. The focus of the book is on the ICT infrastructure, security, sensors, embedded systems, machine learning algorithms, edge/fog computing, and the socio-economic impact.
