SYN2025
This VIII edition of the International Congress of Synaesthesia: Science and Art 2025, is an Special Edition / Twenty-Year 2005-2025 of the celebration of our first Congress, as an act of constitution of the artecittà International Foundation.
This edition of the conference seeks to define the current disciplinary knowledge that relates Synesthesia to the disciplines. Therefore Chairs of the various Tracks are well-known authors on the topic who have already participated in several previous editions of the conference.

WHAT IS SYNESTHESIA: SYNESTHESIA/SYNESTHESIA
is the term used to describe a set of cognitive states related to the union of the senses. Etymologically speaking, “syn”: union and “synaesthesia”: senses = union of the senses. Synesthesias are genuine perceptions, not childhood visual memory associations or metaphorical speech. They are produced by a hyperconnectivity between brain areas. Neurologically speaking, if there are unusual connectivity patterns in brain areas involved in higher order processes (symbolic processing, multisensory integration), it is possible that synaesthesia and creativity are directly related. Current research on synaesthesia demonstrates that the study of the phenomenon raises a broad scope of interdisciplinary issues of scientific theories, research and practical application. Research on synaesthesia sheds new light on the mechanisms of brain activities, as well as their environmental and genetic determinants; specifically, when seeking answers about the nature of language, imagination, metaphor and creativity
