Abstract

Kufic calligraphy holds a significant place in the realm of Islamic art and culture. Its intricate designs, unique shapes, and carefully crafted strokes have conveyed profound meanings and cultural symbolism for centuries. In this investigation, we aim to explore the symbolic representations found within Kufic calligraphy, focusing specifically on the aspects of shapes, strokes, and spatial arrangements.

Kufic calligraphy, named after the city of Kufa in present-day Iraq, originated in the early Islamic period and quickly became a prominent script for written communication. It adorned not only manuscripts but also architectural structures, decorative arts, and religious inscriptions. The deliberate arrangement of shapes, the meticulous execution of strokes, and the thoughtful spatial organization in Kufic calligraphy all contribute to its symbolic nature.
