EasyChair Preprint 13563

15 pagesDate: June 6, 2024

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the 'English for Today' curriculum in

enhancing English proficiency among higher secondary students in Bangladesh.

Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research involved pre- and post

intervention assessments of language skills, alongside qualitative surveys and

interviews with students and teachers. The findings indicate a significant

improvement in students' reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities post

implementation, attributed to the curriculum's comprehensive and contextual

approach. However, challenges such as insufficient teacher training and resource

limitations were identified, suggesting areas for further improvement. The study

concludes that while 'English for Today' positively impacts English proficiency,

addressing the highlighted challenges could enhance its efficacy
