Abstract

Being the second most populous country in Africa ,Ethiopia is expected to de- vise modern manufacturing strategies in order to sustain its economic development as well lift its population out of poverty. Artificial intelli- gence already started to play a crucial role in our daily routines and role in manufacturing health care, transportation, in business and in many more sectors. Recently Manufacturing services are using emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) to handle diverse industrial operations in order to replace human cognitive functions, thanks to the advent of digitization. This technology is predicted to revolutionize the manufacturing industry. There are several AI-enabled domains in the manufacturing sec- tor which are focused on employee management, automated manufacturing operation, product tracking, and production monitoring services are among many . At the same time, investing in AI involves risk factors that have a long-term impact on society and business itself. Assess- ing risk at this early stage is essential. This paper describes AI opportunities and challenges in Ethiopian manufacturing sector. The study was carried out using secondary research based on the themes of previous studies using Artifi- cial Intelligence in the manufacturing sector and valid documentations from prominent databases, challenges and their analysis, and finally issues related to the study.
