E-Learning with Artificial Intelligence: the Road Ahead

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform e-learning by providing personalized,
adaptive, and interactive learning experiences. In this article, we review the current state of AI in
e-learning, including personalized learning, intelligent tutoring systems, natural language
processing, educational data mining, and gamification. We also discuss the challenges of AI in elearning,
including data quality, lack of human interaction, explainability and transparency, cost,
ethical concerns, and technical challenges. Finally, we outline the road ahead for AI-based elearning,
including the need for collaboration between educators, technologists, and
policymakers to ensure that AI-based e-learning systems are effective, equitable, and accessible
to all learners.
