Abstract

Plant epigenetics, encompassing mechanisms such as DNA methylation, histone modification, and RNA-mediated silencing, plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression without altering the underlying DNA sequence. This regulatory network is integral to phenotypic plasticity, the ability of plants to adapt and respond to environmental changes. Epigenetic modifications can induce heritable changes in plant traits, influencing growth, development, and stress responses. Recent advancements in understanding epigenetic mechanisms have revealed their significance in mediating adaptive responses to environmental stresses, including drought, temperature fluctuations, and nutrient availability. This abstract provides an overview of the interplay between epigenetic regulation and phenotypic plasticity in plants, highlighting key findings from recent research. It discusses how epigenetic modifications contribute to the dynamic regulation of gene expression, enabling plants to exhibit a wide range of phenotypic variations in response to environmental stimuli. Understanding these processes offers promising avenues for enhancing crop resilience and adaptability through targeted epigenetic interventions.
